Virginia Fatal Overdose Report

The latest Virginia Fatal Drug Overdose Report was just published.

Some main takeaways are:
• Fentanyl caused or contributed to death in 59.3% of all fatal overdoses in 2019
• Preliminary final totals for 2019 indicate an 8.8% increase in fatal overdoses
• The number of fatal overdoses in 2019 (1617) is the largest ever seen in Virginia
• Fatal non-opioid drug overdoses are on the rise: cocaine overdoses increased 8.7% and methamphetamine overdoses increased 55.9%
