2023 Substance Use/Mental Health Events

JANUARY

  • Jan 10th 5pm Narcan Training: Overdose Prevention – CULPEPER: The Culpeper NAACP will be hosting this free training. Participants will receive 2 doses of the overdose reversal nasal spray, Narcan (Naloxone) upon completion of the training.
    In the past five years, the Virginia health district has experienced over 200 overdose deaths. This all-hands training event will be providing lifesaving information and support from Rappahannock -Rapidan Health Services and other community organizations such as Culpeper Overdose Awareness.org, S.E.E. Recovery Center, Spirit Works Foundation, S.A.F.E and the Culpeper Police Department. You must register for this event to ensure that we have enough Narcan kits to issue.

  • Jan 12th 12-1 Online Dealing with Family Conflict: a free Lunch & Learn webinar that will address how to foster health family relationships that promote wellbeing. Social relationships, particularly family relationships, directly impact mental health, according to numerous studies. Guest speakers from the Piedmont Dispute Resolution Center will discuss information on conflict styles, interventions and mediation options.

  • Jan 16th 7pm Survivors For Life Suicide Support Meeting – CULPEPER: a support group for those affected by the unique grief associated with the loss of a loved one to suicide.  Meetings are held on the third Mondays of each month in the Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services building.  The meetings provide a safe place for grieving, and a place to talk and get support. Meetings are held on the 3rd Monday of each month.

  • Jan 28th – Feb 28th Online ATI Anti-Trafficking Conference: this annual event provides youth, parents, guardians, and community members with the tools to keep you and your loved ones safe from exploitation.  Pre-recorded presentations by survivor leaders and human trafficking experts will be available for you to view at your leisure for an entire month

  • Feb 8th 9-2:30 Online Youth Mental Health First Aid: This FREE training is designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people who are experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge. Participants will need to complete a self paced 2 hour training online before participating.

  • Mar 24th 8:30-5:30 Online Trauma Informed Certification Training – CRI Course 1: This FREE training by The Community Resilience Initiative teaches parents, schools, mental health practitioners and community members about toxic stress and how individuals and communities can build resilience and respond to trauma with evidence-based strategies.
